 BALDWIN, Faith, Alimony
BALDWIN, Faith
Alimony
New York, Triangle Books, 1944. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Red cloth, pictorial dust jacket. vii, 294pp. Very good/very good. Text block rather age toned as usual; jacket a bit edgeworn, with some small edge chips -- but still overall wonderfully, cheesily attractive. Tight, nice copy of this reprint edition, bearing a fine autograph addition: a handsome pictorial bookplate boldly signed "Cordially / Faith Baldwin" is tipped to the front flyleaf. "Must a man pay a woman not to live with him," the front jacket panel asks, "even though she prefers another man?" Delightful jacket art. Baldwin (1893-1978) was a popular and prolific novelist and screenwriter. .

 BALDWIN, FAITH, District Nurse
BALDWIN, FAITH
District Nurse
New York, NY: Triangle Books, 1943. Reprint. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good condition and has a Very Good- dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and wear to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are generally clean, though there is some generalized toning due to the acid content of the paper. The dust jacket has a couple of small to smallish edge tears, and there are spots of bumping and chipping to the corners and spine ends. "Baldwin's writing career began in earnest when her first novel, Mavis of Green Hill, was published in 1921 by Boston publisher Small, Maynard & Company. Six years later, in 1927, she sold her first serial to a magazine, Good Housekeeping. This led to more serials for "women's magazines" that published romance novels as six-part serials, and her popularity with the middle-class and working women audience quickly grew. Eventually she was able to command upwards of $55,000 for serialization rights to her novels, which appeared in publications such as Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, and The Ladies Home Journal. In 1935, she was described as the newest of the "highly paid" women romance writers by Time magazine. Her popularity was at its peak in the 1930s, and in 1936 she earned over $300,000 (approximately equivalent to $4 million in 2005). In the 1950s, she was still going strong, with earnings over $2 million, sales over 10 million in all editions, and "one of the handful of living novelists to complete a five-foot shelf"." (from Wikipedia). Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket .
